Appear higher in Google search results via SEO.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Put simply; Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) refers to altering a website's code and content to best target pre determined keywords so that search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo! will rank you higher in search results than your competition.
A page rank of 1 through 5 for a keyword is considered a very high ranking and will ensure anyone who searches Google for your keyword is likely to see a link to your website on the first results page.
Search engines aren't interested in helping you sell products, they are only interested in helping their users find exactly what they are looking for as fast as possible. They use highly advanced algorithms to process, sort and rank each site they find on the internet. The algorithms are constantly being improved in an attempt to weed out spam and irrelevant sites. Your site must evolve with the algorithms and strive to always have relevant content for your business area.
It's all about trust
Google for example won't take your word for it that you are a T-shirt website selling T-shirts, instead Google looks at the common keywords in the content you have on your site and then compares those to other T-shirt sites it has already come across. Google is all about trust, if it trusts your site the most then you will be rewarded with being displayed at the top of search results for your relevant keywords. A great way to earn trust is through the sites that link to your website. A link to your site from a reputable site would be seen by Google as a trustworthy reference, on the other hand, a link from a bad website will have a detrimental effect on your ranking. It is important to realise that you can easily loose Google's trust.
Important!
What worked 3 years ago for SEO would likely cause Google to penalise you if the same tactics were used today. It is vital that your SEO changes are made by someone like me who has a genuine interest in the advancements of search engine algorithms.
Link Farms
It is possible to buy links to your website from shady online companies which hold 100's of 1000's of dynamic websites which each consist of generic content and 1000's of links. This tactic once allowed sites to go from not being listed on Google to being number 1 rank overnight. These days you are likely to be cut from major search engines all together if employing this tactic, so steer clear.
Text in images
A sign of a poorly designed website is one which has images of text rather than actual text. While some designers will do this to shave the build time of the website, it is one of the best ways to ensure your site performs poorly in search results. While Google is experimenting with reading text from images, it is not worth the risk until they master it. Google won't know what your site is about and therefore won't send visitors to it.
Flash and SEO
While they look great, websites made entirely from Flash (A.K.A. full Flash site) are extremely difficult to make search engine friendly. Google recently announced they can only extract information from the first page of a flash file. Due to the way text is arranged in flash files, Google cannot work out the text hierarchy and ultimately can't logically digest the page content. A full Flash site also poses issues with updating as Flash can't directly communicate with databases.
Avoid the aesthetic attraction of a full Flash site: instead go for a dynamic PHP site using JavaScript for smooth effects and Flash for advanced applets. Not only will this alternative give your site the best chance at a high search ranking, you'll save substantial money and time in future updates and feature additions.
Deceptive tactics
After looking at my website design competition for Melbourne, I realised how many people have been taken for a ride as far as initial SEO is concerned. Many web design companies are producing websites with little to no initial search engine optimisation. When customers return asking why their site is so poorly ranked on Google the design company no doubt tells them they must purchase a SEO package. I refuse to subscribe to this deceptive scheme, I make websites based on the most recent SEO principles to ensure each site has the best chance at success. I also educate my clients on how they can improve their site content to ensure the major search engines know exactly what the site is about and who to send to it.
Bottom Line
I make my websites adhering to the most up-to-date SEO principles from start to finish. I educate clients to ensure their content is working as hard as possible to attract customers. I don't use risky SEO tactics; Google would penalise you and it would hurt. I am prepared to optimise existing websites, I will give you a fixed quote after viewing your site.
